World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm Review – Don’t stand in fire By Jake
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Cataclysm is the third expansion in The World Of Warcraft series by Blizzard and has been long awaited by many. The Shattering of the world by the reemergence of Deathwing has allowed for Blizzard to redo both Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms to revitalize the game, while giving the player base another annoying boss to get excited about killing later in the expansion. It also afforded them with the ability to put forth several other changes, increasing the level cap to 85 and adding a few new zones including Vashj’ir, which is completely underwater. Goblins and Worgen were also added as playable races and several new race/class combinations. A unique profession, Archaeology, which requires one to farm endlessly for unique rewards, has also been added to the game.
What’s Good The Shattering – The Shattering was a good excuse for Blizzard to finally redo the entire world and fix awful questing zones that were almost entirely neglected by the community. The changes are gorgeous and make questing 100x more fun. Azshara used to be a bleak empty zone that would only contain one or two people farming for the azure whelping pet, or searching for the Azuergos world spawn back in the day. Now it supports a large Goblin population and many entertaining quests. Time is money, friend – Goblins are here and about time too. Worgen are also available. Being the two new races added in the expansion, they can be seen everywhere you look across Azeroth. Goblins may have the best racial for penny pinchers, such as myself, where they always get a 20% discount at vendors. Goblins are sweet, simply because they make weird giant cannons like the one pictured below.

Dr. Jones – You too can be just like Indiana Jones, without the actual adventures, by picking up the new Archaeology profession. It definitely has some nice rewards, but if you are picking it up just to try to get the new gear, you just might end up pulling your hair out. However, the cosmetic rewards are pretty sweet. Who doesn’t want to turn into a giant Naga Naz’Jar Honor Guard or a green AQ40 mount bug? Maybe they should add some dig sites to raids where you can have a close call with having your heart pulled out from your chest and thrown into the fire before your own eyes. Rubik’s cube difficulty – Heroics are hard… the first time through. After you learn the boss fights and the tricks to the trash, the heroics become insanely easy. They do definitely have a gear check requirement and are immensely fun when they still required CC to be used on every trash pull and when you can’t make any accidents at all on bosses. Note to Blizzard: please stop nerfing the heroic dungeons. Make sure that the majority of your group is comprised of people you know, otherwise you are looking at long downtimes and many wipes.

Play by yourself – Questing has never been this much fun before in World of Warcraft. It used to be a chore to level up a 2nd alt character, but now it has become extremely easy. There are so many advantages to leveling up new characters other than the awesomely revamped quests. You can generate a ton of gold just from leveling up, especially with gathering professions, and eventually you could cover most of the important professions to further advance your main character. Or you can simply enjoy the variety, as well as the single player experience. From level 1-60, you can pretty much knock out a level every 30-45 minutes. Not bad at all! Fly Like an Eagle – There is no mixed reality and cartoon characters running around for a basketball game, but you can fly everywhere within Azeroth now. Except for in the BC territories that are attached to Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms (Silvermoon City and Exodar). Flying not only makes leveling faster but it really allows you to explore zones and see areas that you never noticed before. Prior to old world flight, I never knew how impressive the Ruins of Lordaeron are above the Undercity. Check it out if you haven’t, it’s pretty neat. I’m still trying to find the location that inspired the Arena map of the same name.

Guilds matter – With the new guild leveling and rewards system, remaining in your guild actually means something. No more guild hopping as you won’t be able to access rewards and some perks without having previously hit a certain rep threshold within the guild. This also promotes more guild activity and cooperative play for guild runs. Now you really have an excuse to yell at the moron who goes off and pugs BH instead of waiting for a guild run to doubly benefit the guild from the guild exp/rep and keeping loot inside the guild.
What’s Bad Got no team – Rated BGs are just horrible. Takes 15-45 minutes for a queue and then you get matched up against a team where everyone is rated over 2k with a few Gladiator and Defender of the Shattered World titles. Not fun to be steamrolled just based on their gear even though they don’t have proper strategies. Defense wins championships – No championships are at stake here, but the new Tol Barad world PvP zone is completely broken and it is extremely difficult for the attacking team to win. I’m just glad I’m Horde on my server as we maintain TB for 6 out of every 7 days. All you have to do is turtle with half the raid at one point and let the other half recapture whichever section the offensive team attacked when they move on to the next section. Capturing all three while on offense is near impossible.

WoW review Worgen
Twilight fan boys – Werewolves Worgen have taken over the Alliance cities. Everyone and their grandmother has race changed to a Worgen. They look funny and don’t require a mount, what’s so special about that? The sprint buff they get is nice, but where do they really fit in with the lore of Warcraft? As long as Blizzard doesn’t add Vampires to the Horde next, I think all will be well with the next expansion, whenever that is. Please don’t drop me – What’s up with the new drake mounts? You don’t ride them but instead are being carried in their claws, just dangling in the air. And when the mount is on the ground, you’re character is halfway beneath the world. I earned my Volcanic Stone Drake from the Glory of the Cataclysm Dungeon Hero meta achievement and it has taken me quite a while to get used to flying around without actually being able to see my character mounted.
WoW review Deathwing Destruction
Fire is bad – Yes we all know that by now. Dying to Deathwing several times is annoying and you can only get the achievement once. I guess I have been unlucky to be in the wrong zone at the wrong time. I believe Deathwing picks one zone a day or it may be entirely random, but I’ve died three or four times to his destruction. Shouldn’t he be getting bored of just soaring over the skies burning everything in sight by now? If I had to do that for two months straight, I’d get bored. But maybe that’s just me. Dude, where’s my mana? – Healers are going through a hard time trying to adapt to the new ways of Cataclysm. No longer do they have endless mana pools like in WotLK, due to increased mana costs as well as a reduced mana regen. It isn’t entirely harder to heal, but considering you used to be able to spam one or two abilities in the past, healers are now required to play more efficiently, which is a difficult concept for a lot to grasp.
